Day 199

Day 199

Soft, pink and so cute.

Rosy Maple moths are recognizable by their bright pink and yellow colouring. That helps them blend in with the flowers of the trees they call home, keeping them hidden from predators.

In their caterpillar stage they feast on the leaves of maple trees but as adults they don’t eat at all—which explains why they don’t have mouths. Despite that, they are prolific procreators, laying as many as 200 eggs in a single season.

They are known as “the great silk moth” but they are the smallest of their species. These wooly winged ones are quite tiny and utterly adorable.
