Day 229

Day 229

Light plays tricks

When I think of a mirage, I think of hallucinating an oasis in a desert. But there are other ways in which the eyes are tricked.

Sometimes, at high altitudes, when the sun is shining brightly in the background and the light casts a shadow on a cloud or into the fog, the Brocken spectre will appear. A ghostly human-like figure which appears to be looking at you through the haze. In truth what we’re seeing is our own shadow.

The way light plays in our world, eerie as it sometimes can be, is fascinating.
