When a multi generational farmer and cattle rancher went to work saving a calf’s life, the experience changed him. He spent days fighting to keep this baby alive and the idea of taking that life after just a couple of years didn’t make sense.
Mike Lanigan turned what was once a slaughterhouse, into a sanctuary for his animals and is planning to add a cattle hospital.
In a tvo interview he said that one of his favourite parts of running the sanctuary is the tradition of opening up the gates and seeing the cows run out into the fresh green grass for the first time after the winter with a joy that is contagious.
